Support Highcliffe Castle

Highcliffe Castle is owned and operated by BCP Council.

Our initial building repairs and refurbishment works in the early 1990s were able to take place as a result of investments by the local authority and grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and English Heritage. This transformed the castle from a derelict ruin to the magnificent building you see today.

In 2008 there were further works at a cost of £1.2 million, opening up further rooms for use and providing full access to the ground floor, incorporating modern facilities to enable us to hold wedding receptions, banquets and events.

The most recent phase of refurbishment was completed in 2019, at a cost of £3.84 million, opening the East Wing of the Castle.

The upkeep, maintenance and good stewardship of the Castle is now funded by several means:

  • An allocated budget from BCP Council
  • Admission charges
  • Retail sales of products in the Castle Gift Shop
  • Events and exhibitions
  • Through wedding ceremonies and receptions

We also rely on sponsorship, donations and our popular Season Ticket scheme. However, not all support comes in a financial form – we rely on a large volunteer workforce to enable us to open the doors!
